PzntA - Inducible Promoter

The zntAp promoter upregulates the zntA gene for the ATPase zinc exporter, ZntA. To decrease high intracellular concentrations of zinc, the zntA gene expresses ZntA upon activation by the cytosolic zinc-bound transcription factor, ZntR. Zinc ions can enter the cell through mechanosensitive channels (Mscs) that are opened by a stress on the membrane, and can then bind to ZntR. The zntAp promoter is therefore indirectly activated by stress, in which four zinc ions must enter the cell through the Msc to bind and activate ZntR. Our binding sites for zinc-bound ZntR include -35 and -10 b.p. upstream of the zntAp promoter for mRFP upregulation. Sequence and Features
